This piece began as a replication of an image I once saw, but it has since evolved into something deeply personal. Oh, My Brother is an artwork where I consciously applied my design principles—guiding rules that will define my work across all disciplines moving forward.
At its core, this piece is about betrayal. It is a visual meditation on the sheer wickedness of mankind—the ease with which a man would kill his own, even his brother. The moment captured is not just an act of violence but a breaking point, where trust is shattered and the line between kinship and cruelty disappears.
Several of my principles shape this piece. Duality & Contrast is evident in the lighting, where the serene, sunlit sky clashes against the darkness of the act. The natural world, full of life, bears silent witness to death. Cinematic Immersion plays a key role, with the composition frozen at the moment of impact, like a frame from an untold film. Birds scatter in the background, reacting to the shot, reinforcing Signs of Transition—something irreversible has just happened.
Darkness as a Persona manifests in the shadowed figure of the shooter, his form blending into the environment, as though his actions consume him. Meanwhile, the victim stands in eerie stillness, for a moment before collapsing. The surreal presence of distant creatures adds an element of Hyper-Realism and Meets Abstraction—a touch of the unnatural in an otherwise grounded scene.
This is not just a single event; it speaks to something larger. Speaking to the Past & Future, Oh My Brother does not belong to any one time period. It could be a retelling of Cain and Abel, or a prophecy of betrayals yet to come. The weight of history lingers in the air.
This is only the beginning. As I move forward, these principles will continue to shape my work, ensuring that each piece is not just an image, but an experience—one that lingers in the mind long after the first glance.
